Thoughts on What to Vote for in the Dragon Awards

[Edited, per comments]

So, aside from Honor at Stake, what can you vote for in the Dragon Awards? Or the Flight....

Yes, it's an old joke. Ask your parents, kids.

Anyway, I keep mentioning the Dragon Awards, but mostly in the context of, "Please, for the love of God, vote for Honor at Stake."

Anyway, let's make things easier on people.  There's a little less than a month now to nominate stuff for the flight of awards, and now, let's get down to brass tacks.

What came out last year that is eligible for the Dragon Awards.

Answer...
We have updated the eligibility period for works for consistency across the site. Works released between 7/1/2015 and 6/30/2016 are eligible for this year’s awards.
Okay, so anything from July last year and June are eligible. There is nothing about nominating whole series. Sorry.

So Nethereal isn't allowed ... damnit.

The sequel, Souldancer, however .... Heh heh heh.

Yes, for the record, I'm starting with Sad Puppy authors and their works, as well as plain old thing I've read (neither Stephenson or Ringo from last year, for example, is eligible). Why? Because it's a list that makes my life easier, that's why.

Best science fiction novel -- Oh, we have such a list here: SouldancerTorchship, by Karl Gallagher, several David Weber books (I'd list them, but I can't keep track), Black Tide Rising. And, The Big Sheep (review tomorrow).

Best fantasy novel (including paranormal) -- Honor at StakeSon of the Black Sword, Sword of the South, Somewhither, Iron Chamber of Memory, The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut’s Windlass

Best young adult/middle grade novel -- Honor at Stake ... yes, really, it was meant to be YA. And the only other YA I know lately isn't that good.

Best military science fiction or fantasy novel -- Honor at Stake (ninjas, remember), The Cinder Spires: The Aeronaut’s Windlass; and anything by Weber within the time frame.

Best alternate history novel -- assume Harry Turtledove is going to win this one.

Best apocalyptic novel -- Chasing FreedomBlack Tide Rising

Best horror novel -- Honor at Stake?  Black Tide Rising

Best episode in a continuing science fiction or fantasy series, TV or internet: pick something from Daredevil, The Flash, Arrow, Person of Interest ... I can't even keep track

Best science fiction or fantasy movie -- Captain America, Civil War. See? That was easy. Oh, and The Martian. and Deadpool, if you're into that sort of thing.

Best science fiction or fantasy PC / console game: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Until Dawn, Rise of the Tomb Raider

Best science fiction or fantasy mobile game -- Fallout Shelter

As for the rest ... damned if I know.

Best comic book
Best graphic novel
Best science fiction or fantasy board game
Best science fiction or fantasy miniatures / collectable card / role-playing game

Enjoy.  CLICK HERE TO NOMINATE IN DRAGON AWARDS.

  1. Thanks for mentioning my books.

To be honest, Souldancer would probably be more at home in the horror and fantasy categories, though I suppose a case could be made for including it on the Best SF Novel ballot.

It's also by far the best thing I've written.

You asked for recommendations, but I've been so busy writing Soul Cycle Book III and beta reading for other writers that the only stuff I've read this year hasn't been released yet.

    Good luck, Honor at Stake!

  2. I don't know if you linked it, I clicked on (I thought) every link and finally had to go digging myself to find the Nominations page. People like me who are slow witted need a BIG LINK in BIG BOLD CAPITAL LETTERS that says "CLICK HERE TO NOMINATE" . Anyway, this is the link I found, and followed your reccomendations, because I couldn't agree more. http://application.dragoncon.org/dc_fan_awards_nominations.php

  5. Egad. *Ten Gentle Opportunities* came out 1/15/2016 and is therefore eligible. I thought it was a calendar-year window. Heh. Read the Fine Print, Jeff...
