There have been a few things to keep abreast of since I was away, so let’s cover them.
First of all, do you remember this one?
Okay, maybe you don’t.
It’s my “vampire romance”— except I have far, far more explosions than a lot of people in the romance genre appreciate.
I found, much to my surprise, that the first half of the novels were character driven, (cough, with some fight scenes, cough) followed by nonstop, hardcore, balls-to-the-wall action. Which isn’t bad for something that I didn’t outline.
To the surprise of no one who’s read the series, Marco does not take direction well, and rewrites the desired plot points in my head.
How about the description?
A 2016 Dragon Award Nominee for Best Horror Novel!
One is a heartless, bloodthirsty killer. The other is a vampire.College freshman, Amanda Colt knows few people and wants to know fewer still. She enjoys fencing and prefers facing a challenge every once in a while. She is beautiful, smart, and possibly the most interesting person on campus.
Then she finds tall, intense Marco Catalano in her fencing class. With a mind like a computer and manners of a medieval knight, he scares most people - but not Amanda. They both have secrets, for they are both monsters.
As they draw closer, they must find the line between how much they can trust each other, and how much they can care for each other. Each carries a secret that can destroy the other. But they must come to grips with their personal drama soon because a darkness rises around them. Bodies keep turning up all over New York, and an army of vampires closes in on all sides.
They have only one hope - each other.
If you remember it or not, IT’S BACK. The entire series has made a return via Three Ravens press.
And the fun doesn’t even end there.
Demons are Forever is also coming back, already
After saving Brooklyn from a nest of vampires, Amanda Colt and Marco Catalano are a little banged up. He's been given a job offer to deal with vampires in San Francisco, and it's a tempting offer - it would get him away from Amanda, his feelings for her, and get her away from the darkness inside him. When a death in the family compels Marco to move to the West Coast, they're both left to fend for themselves.
Then the creature known only as Mister Day leaves their world in tatters, and they must once more join forces against the darkness. Only Day is no vampire, but a creature beyond their experience. It will take the combined might of Marco, Amanda, and all of their allies just to slow it down. They have no weapons that can kill him. They have no way to imprison him. To even fight him is death.
But they have to try - or face the end of everything they love.
Basically, the entire Love at First Bite series is going to be back online by the end of the week.
No, I don’t have all the links yet, so I’ll probably end up both updating this post, and making at least one other post by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, over in another genre…
Those of the planet Renar have one rule regarding the local mafia: They do not exist.
When White Ops leader Sean Patrick Ryan uncovers its existence, he finds a world of political intrigue and corruption that stretches back years. The Mafia has cast a shadow that has touched every member of his team. Now, the Mafia wants to emerge from the shadows.
Their first target: Sean Ryan. Despite Sean being held back by local politics and diplomatic niceties, he's still the most dangerous man in the universe.
They underestimated him.
So, this was the book where I decided that my “fan fiction” had become something so alien from the original series (pun not intended) that I needed to rewrite everything.
What I should be doing is writing up daily blog posts on the books, explaining the process, blah blah blah.
But I’m not really in a place yet where I can just sit my ass down at a PC and work at it all day long. My PC isn’t even set up yet, because our internet connection is … idiosyncratic.
But the short version is that this is my most ambitious project to date. It’s strangely not as epic, but it culminates in something that’s been building since book one.
Yes, I do have some idea of what I’m doing and where I’m going with this series. I’ve got this more or less outlined to book 13. I’ve got drafts. I have outlines. And unless I am hit by a truck, this series is going to be wrapped up with a bow on top.
Yes, for those of you who kept score, I had all that ongoing as I buried my father, moved across the country from New York to Texas, and try to unpack the disaster we were left with when the movers dropped everything on us and ran for the hills.
So, yeah, it was a fun two months.
